“I can’t die — it would ruin my image.”

Posted by wmagnus On September - 28 - 2009

Today isn’t the actual anniversary of the event but close enough. On September 26, 1914, something seeming mundane happened. A baby was born to a family of French immigrants living in San Francisco. What actually happened was more auspicious. That baby was Jack Lalanne who over the weekend celebrated his 95th birthday.

Lalanne practically invented the idea of fitness as anti-aging. He brought weight lifting into vogue, opening his first weight lifting gym in 1936. Lalanne’s list of athletic feats is amazing including a swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf while handcuffed. At 95 he still lifts weight and swims daily.

Happy birthday, Jack.
